Dick Enberg Memorial Golf Classic returns this summer

Sep 13, 2023

Planning is underway for the Armada Education Foundation’s 2023 Dick Enberg Memorial Golf Classic.

This year’s event will take place Aug. 6 at Timberwood Golf Club in Ray Township. The AEF’s annual golf outing is held in honor of the late Dick Enberg, the legendary sportscaster who grew up in Armada and graduated from Armada High School. Enberg died in 2017.

The benefits to the community are almost immediate, said AEF Executive Director Linda Lyons.

“This year’s goal is to raise $25,000,” she said. “Those proceeds will fund grants to teachers for projects and programs that will benefit students in their classrooms for the 2023-2024 school year.”

Since 1988, AEF has awarded more than $480,000 in grants to Armada Area Schools, she noted.

Offered again this year is a $10,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one. Various prize raffles will also be conducted during the day, including a vacation package for a one-week stay at an upscale vacation home near Harbor Springs.

New game-hole challenges are also being added to this year’s event.

Registration, a continental breakfast and complimentary driving range will begin at 8 a.m. with a shot-gun start at 9 a.m. Participants will receive a gift bag, 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch on the turn and a buffet dinner served at 2 p.m. with an open bar. The cost is $110 per person, or $100 if paid before July 1. Dinner-only tickets are available for $35.
